I once saw a photo of the Northern Lights and it did something deep inside me and I decided that I have to see it for myself. But watching the phenomenon of nature from the snow covered ice bottom was not sufficient for me. I wanted it to be more real, I wanted to be able to be enveloped in the experience of the aurora.
Moreover, sometimes I like to add a touch of luxury to my trip so I book meet and greet parking at Heathrow to experience top of the line treatment.
Enter the glass igloo. These cute little domes allow stargazers to watch the light show from the comfort of a bed. One can picture this so cozily – getting into bed, putting on a blanket and a cup of cocoa, and seeing the variety of colors of green, purple, and pink in the night sky. Sounds pretty dreamy, right?
Today, there are quite a few glass igloo hotels situated across Scandinavia and Iceland, although they are rather different from one another. To help you narrow down your choices, I'm gonna share a few of my top picks:
● The Arctic Fox Igloos in Saariselkä, Finland:
Located in the snowy forests of Finnish Lapland, the Arctic Fox Igloos are a step above the traditional glass igloo. That is why the igloos themselves include a heated glass roof, a comfortable double bed and even a sauna!
Besides, the hotel provides buses for the guests to watch the aurora borealis and other winter attractions like husky sledding and snowshoeing.
● ION Luxury Adventure Hotel, Iceland:
Located in the remote wilderness of þingvellir National Park, the ION Luxury Adventure Hotel is a haven for nature lovers. Their glass igloos promise a unique view of the surrounding country’s lava fields and, of course, the dancing auroras.
● Kakslauttanen Glass Igloo Village, Finland:
This large village of igloos provides many types of accommodation in glass igloo uses ranging from economy to luxury. Some Igloos also have a private fireplace to warm everybody up and make the time when people watch aurora even more romantic.
